Before I get to new thing #4, here is the latest on my other new things. First of all, we are scheduled to close on the house this Thursday!!! I am excited, but I think Nate is ecstatic to have this part of the process be over. He has definitely taken on the brunt of the work in making this happen. Now, who can recommend an interior designer for me? Right now the first floor bathroom is black and covered in cheetahs...it's gotta go!
Second, I am still on track with my Coach Potato training. I am doing 25 minute runs now, with a 30 minute run at the end of the week. The sad news is that I don't think I even run two miles in my 25 minutes. Pathetic, I know, but at least I am honest!
Third, and this may be obvious, but the foster care process is on hold until we move in. That is going to be a coulple months because we have some work to do on the house before we can move in and they can license us. So, it is still happening, just probably not till this summer.
And this wasn't one of my new things, but I AM GOING ON A CRUISE IN A WEEK!!!! Nate and I are just a little bit excited.
Okay, onto the next new thing! This has been brewing for a quite a while now, and I was recently pushed to just do it. I have a NEW online presence at Styles and Smiles!!! I am officially starting a business to reach adoptive moms and help them care for and style hair for children of color. You can read all about it over at Styles and Smiles, but basically I decided to put one of my favorite things to do (hair) with something I really, really, really care about (helping white moms do their black girls' hair) and this is what I came up with. While I am fully aware that all the info you could ever need to learn about hair can be found online, I also know that there are a lot of moms who don't have to time to find it and who also want someone to help them out. I know having friends help me, especially at the beginning, was invaluable, and not all adoptive moms have a network of friends with that knowledge.
My website is pretty bare right now, but eventually I will flesh it out. There is an option to have a blog there as well, so when my blogging urge comes, that is where I will do it. So for those of you who like Sasha and Alexis stories and enjoy keeping up with our family, that is where you can go now. I have one year left of posts to import onto Blurb and less than a week to do it. But it will get done, and Life In the Farm will be down soon.
So that is the news, friends! In the meantime, if you know anyone who needs some help with hair, send them my way! :)
Heidi, congrats on your new venture! What an awesome idea. I cetainly have spent many a hours scouring the internet for info on how to care for my girls' hair! I felt great about my hair care routine when my brother-in-law's girlfriend complemented my hair knowledge and maintanence! She said she spent her childhood with her hair looking a mess because her mom didn't know how to care for it...makes me thankful that we are raising our kids in the age of the internet!
