Okay, all of you with blogs out there...what is your long term plan with them? I have considered several times over the past couple years of taking Life in the Farm down, but I was never quite ready to do it. One of the reasons is that I love that I have such a great record of our family. And another is that it is a really fun way to stay in contact with people. And I sort of like writing. But really, a blog can't go on forever, can it?
We are a little over the 5 year mark and I'm thinking it's time to say goodbye to Life in the Farm. One of the reasons it's time to go is that while there is a great record of my family, there are a whole lot of details and pictures out there! And I just have a feeling that as my kids get older, they aren't going to love that! Plus, let's be honest, I just don't have the time to keep up with writing on a consistent basis and I don't like doing things half way.
So, in preparation, I have been spending every waking minute turning this blog into a book, using Blurb. It has not been fun. I have been doing about 3 months of posts a day and it is so tedious. But I know it will be worth it when I have Life in the Farm II and Life in the Farm III sitting on my shelf next to the original Life in the Farm book that Nate gave me for Christmas in 2007.
But, I do have another NEW thing!!!! I'm not completely ready to go public yet, but there will still be a way for me to keep up the family record and let others know what is happening in the Farm. I am really excited about my next new thing and I will be sharing it here very shortly!
I recently "quit" facebook and I received "hate comments" for it, so I definitely don't want to do that...but I am soo sad to hear this, and at the same time totally can understand and get behind your reasoning. I haven't actually looked into blurb, but I have wondered what to do with my blog...is it crazy expensive? That has been my fear...and therefor I've avoided looking into it altogether. :)

Wow...hate comments for quitting FB! Crazy! I think Blurb will end up being pretty expensive, but I figure it's worth it for the 5 years I have put into blogging. I want to be able to look back at it!

what a great idea! i've been thinking about this as well. i want to not have any of the kids look my name up and then see a random day that i had complained about parenting. obviously, it happened, but i don't think it's really all that awesome that it's visible for everyone. but i don't necessarily want to dump all the sweet milestones either!
