It sure doesn't feel like spring around here, (what with the few inches of snow we got yesterday and all!) but Nate and I went to Sasha's second semester conference tonight. I can't believe Sasha almost has a full year of school under her belt! Just like last time, the first thing her teacher said was that she is very social. The second thing the teacher said was that Sasha is doing really well with writing letters and cutting. We knew this, because we have seen it at home. In the past couple months she has developed such a huge interest in writing and letters. She loves to sit at our kitchen counter and write, she loves to create "invitations to parties" and she likes to "write" letters on Nate's iPad. At home, she will kind of wander away and then a few minutes later I hear her ask me "Mom, what is the first letter of your name?" It is really cool to see how her handwriting has drastically improved from the beginning of the year.
The other thing the teacher shared is that Sasha is very independent and enjoys doing things in the classroom. She wanted us to know this, because Sasha STILL puts up a fuss when I drop her off in the morning. Not every morning, but the majority of the time you will find me carrying Lexi (28 pounds as of yesterday!), and trying to pry Sasha off my leg as I attempt to leave the classroom. Usually one of the teachers has to hold her so I can get out. But the second I am out of view, she happily goes and does her thing. Nate and I see this little game played out at home all the time. If I am there, she wants my full attention and she wants me to entertain her. But as soon as I give her the direction to play on her own (and actually enforce it) she can do it. And she has fun. But it usually comes after whining and fighting about it.
We were also happy to hear that the squealing of last fall is a thing of the past. Yay progress! And thankfully the teacher also said she is ready to move on to 4 year old preschool, because she is already registered! :)
