The visit is over, Alexis is fast asleep for the night. Sasha, not quite, but hopefully she will be soon! (Although sleep is now being pushed back due to a book related injury in bed). We had a great time seeing J and her fam again. Lexi turned on the charm, so they got to see her in all her extreme cuteness. She was saying tons of words and even said J's name. But they also got to see a nice little tantrum as well when Lexi didn't get something she wanted (to climb the stairs). I can't even imagine what the experience must be like for Lexi's first family to see her...it's got to be a combination of so many feelings like joy, sadness, loss, pride, and so much more.
For me, I had a couple questions I wanted to ask them, so it was nice to be able to do it in person. We talked about what to have the girls call them and you know we talked about hair! It was a huge relief when I asked how they would do Lexi's hair if she was with them and they said "Just like that!" Phew. I am a huge proponent of openness and honesty, but it's always a little nervewracking to live out what you preach! I decided against asking J if I could put a picture up here, so instead here is Lexi waiting for their car to drive up...
She gave them a big wave and a "Hi!" as they drove up. I've said this over and over, but we are so lucky to have the type of adoption we do. Really, we couldn't ask for much more. Our lives have been enriched in so many ways, and I think it will make things easier for Alexis in the long run too. How lucky are we that we can know that Alexis looks just like her first mom (and dad), and that they have so many of the same traits? Alexis will be able to see herself reflected back to her. She will be able to get answers, even if they aren't easy ones. Those are just a few of the reasons that Nate and I are so grateful. Alexis, you are loved more than you will ever know.
Love this post, Heidi! So glad you had a good visit. :)

I didn't know you guys were meeting again this weekend! Can't wait to hear how J and her family are. You are so right about their inclusion in Lexi's life - I even feel blessed to have been able to meet them and see J's physical and personality traits shine through in Lexi (especially J's beautiful eyes!). And you are also SO right about how much your girls are LOVED!
