Wow, the deals at Meijer this week were great. I was so excited that I dragged Nate out on Monday night to help me get it all. And he didn't mind...he loves doing a transaction at the checkout and not having to pay a penny! The highlights for me were the free Warm Delights, veggies, and crackers. But I also got yogurt, pretzels, salad and frosting for free. You can also see the Hello Kitty band aids in there, although those were from Target. I've said this before and I'll say it again, that my couponing policy in general is not to buy something I wouldn't normally buy even if it is on sale with a coupon. It's not a good deal if it is something I wouldn't have normally purchased! HOWEVER, I am a-okay with getting lots of junk for FREE that I wouldn't normally buy. Enter Warm Delights and Lance's crackers! I get a ton, allow myself one Warm Delight a week, and that usually lasts me until they are free again. I've never gotten this type of crackers free before, but they will be perfect for on the go snacks and playdates and stuff. Also, if anyone near me needs some frosting, I got way more than I needed!
I have also switched up my coupon clipping/organizing strategy and it has paid off big time just in the past couple weeks. Lately I just don't have a ton of time/desire to clip coupons and I find myself skipping certain coupons because either they are for something I normally don't buy or it is more rare that there is a great sale on that item. I hate clipping tons of coupons and then having them expire before I use them. But then sometimes I throw the inserts away, and I hear about a great deal and I don't have the coupons needed to do it.
That's where the filing system comes in. Now I clip the coupons that I know I am going to use, that there is a really good chance they will be used soon, or that are such a high value coupon that it is worth carrying around with me in case I happen to find a deal that wasn't advertised. The rest I don't worry about and I file away. If a couple weeks down the road, I hear about a great deal with coupons I didn't clip, I have them stored and I can find the insert easily and use them. This just happened to me with Oikos Greek Yogurt. I would love to buy this stuff on a regular basis, but it is pretty pricey. I have also never noticed a ton of great sales for it. So I usually don't even bother to clip the coupons when I see them. BUT, this week it is free at Kroger with coupons from a few weeks ago! Normally I would have missed out on this deal, but since I had the insert filed away, I was easily able to get the coupons and get myself a sweet deal.
Now I just need to find the space in my house for all this free stuff...
